(NYT27) NEW YORK -- Oct. 16, 2005 -- MAGAZINE -- Norman Pearlstine, left, has for four years been grooming John Huey, Time Inc.'s editorial director, to succeed him as editor in chief. The executives in the Time-Life Building in New York on Wedensday, Oct. 12, 2005. Time Inc., a division of Time Warner, the world's largest media company, is to announce today that Huey, 57, will succeed Pearlstine, 63, on Jan. 1. This makes Huey the sixth editor-in- chief of the storied magazine empire since Henry R. Luce published the first issue of Time in 1923 (though Luce did not assume the title of editor in chief until the 1940s). (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
