(NYT3) LOS ANGELES -- March 4, 2005 -- TV-ALLEY -- Actress Kirstie Alley in Los Angeles on Feb. 22, 2005. Alley's new sitcom "Fat Actress," begins on Showtime on Monday. In a country obsessed with body weight and replete with obesity -- and fascinated by the fluctuating shapes, intentional or not, of celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Renee Zellweger -- the notion of making comedic hay out of being fat may not be entirely crazy. After all, reality shows like "The Biggest Loser," "Extreme Makeover," "The Swan" and "Fear Factor" have firmly established in the nation's culture the concept of televised self-abasement.
