(NYT26) NEW YORK -- Feb. 24, 2005 -- MAAZEL-MUSIC -- Lorin Maazel's many compositions include an opera based on Orwell's dark novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four" performed with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall in January. While his works have been periodically performed in Europe and America and occasionally in New York, Maazel is far better known as a conductor than a composer. On Tuesday, March 1, 2005, the New York Philharmonic program will consist entirely of music composed by Maazel himself. (Hiroyuki Ito/The New York Times)
