(NYT71) ULSAN, South Korea -- Jan. 5, 2005 -- KOREA-SHIPBUILDING -- Container ships and tankers are built under a massive construction crane in Hyundai Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. in Ulsan, South Korea, in May 10, 2004. Only in 2004, when South Korea exported ships with a value of $15.09 billion, did it definitively wrest from Japan the status of the world's leading shipbuilding nation. But the South Koreans are already looking over their shoulder at China, which has embarked on a path toward becoming the largest shipbuilder by 2015. (Seokyong Lee/The New York Times)
