(NYT18) LEIPZIG, Germany -- Jan. 7, 2005 -- RAUCH-ARTWORKS -- Artist Neo Rauch in Leipzig, Germany in November. Rauch, a soft-spoken, modest German artist, dismisses his star status as inflated and pompous. Yet there's a list of collectors from all over the world waiting for paintings he hasn't even started. Harry Lybke, who has been Rauch's art dealer in Germany since 1993, said that Rauch's paintings were especially popular in the United States -- about half of his customers are Americans, the other half is from Germany.
