(NYT74) NEW YORK -- April 14, 2005 -- OBIT-PAVIA -- Sculptor Philip Pavia in his Manhattan studio with two of his marble sculptures in November 2002. Pavia, a sculptor who was a powerful force in the midcentury avant-garde art scene in New York, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at New York University Medical Center. He was 94 and lived in Manhattan. The cause was complications from a stroke he had two weeks ago, said his wife, Natalie Edgar, a painter. (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
