(NYT38) PAHRUMP, Nev. -- Feb. 21, 2005 -- NEV-INDIAN-LAND -- Eddie Hill stands outside the modest home he grew up in on the property that his family has homesteaded for generations in Pahrump, Nev. Hill's family recently found that they do not own the land due to a technicality. A class action lawsuit by more than 300,000 American Indians is wending its way through the federal courts. They claim that the Department of the Interior, which acts as a trustee of Indian land, swindled them out of as much as $137 billion in mining and grazing contracts over the last century.
