(NYT57) ALBANY. N.Y. -- June 17, 2004 -- INDIAN-CASINO-FRAUD -- Ronald A. Roberts brushes away tears as he leaves the Federal Courthouse in Albany, N.Y., Thursday, June 17, 2004, after being sentenced to six months of house arrest and then probation for filing false documents in court. Roberts submitted false documents to federal authorities in a scheme to gain recognition as an American Indian leader and open a casino. The sentence was a rebuff to federal prosecutors, who had argued that Roberts, who calls himself Chief Golden Eagle, should have received 4 to 5 years for trying to hoodwink federal officials in a quest for quick riches.
