(NYT18) SANTA FE, N.M. -- June 5, 2004 -- NM-PRISON-ABUSE -- Suzan Garcia at her home in Santa Fe, N.M., in May. Two lawyers have filed a lawsuit on behalf of Garcia, whose son, Tyson Johnson, killed himself in a private jail in Santa Fe in 2002. Experts say the troubles in the Santa Fe jail are emblematic of the problems that often happen when cities and states turn to private companies to run their jails and prisons.
