(NYT11) CAMPBELL, Calif. -- June 19, 2004 -- PRENATAL-TESTS-3 -- DonDakay DeMaria who is 7 months pregnant and her husband Andrew, at their home in Campbell, Calif., on June 14, 2004, decided not to get the results of their prenatal testing. Fetal genetic tests are now routinely used to diagnose diseases as well known as cystic fibrosis and as obscure as fragile X, a form of mental retardation. Most couples say they are both profoundly grateful for the new information and hugely burdened by the choices it forces them to make. (Peter DaSilva/The New York Times)
