(NYT46) CALVERTON, N.Y. -- Oct. 27, 2003 -- FLIGHT-800-PIECES -- After TWA Flight 800 exploded in 1996, an old airplane hangar in Calverton, N.Y., became a sacred place as investigators hauled pieces of the plane to the hangar to begin piecing the disaster together. Now, the government has begun the long process of moving that monument, piece by twisted piece, from Long Island to the campus of George Washington University in Ashburn, Va. Wreckage from Flight 800, in Calverton, Monday, Oct. 27, 2003. (Maxine Hicks/The New York Times)
