(NYT17) BAGHDAD -- October 26, 2003 -- IRAQ-ATTACK-2 -- U.S. soldiers stop Iraqis from using a road behind the Rashhed Hotel on their way to work in Baghdad on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003. A senior American military officer was killed and more than a dozen other individuals were wounded Sunday morning when a barrage of air-to-ground missiles slammed into the hotel inside one of the most secure compounds in the city, where most of the personnel who are part of the American-led occupation there live and eat.
