(NYT47) JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, Texas -- Sept. 25, 2003 -- SHUTTLE-ENGINEER-2 -- New interviews and newly revealed e-mail sent during the fatal space shuttle Columbia's mission show that the engineers' desire for outside help in getting a look at the shuttle's wing was more intense and widespread than the Aug. 26 final report of the board investigating the accident described. Rodney Rocha, a NASA engineer conveyed the urgent message that images were needed of possible shuttle damage.
