(NYT31) CLEVELAND -- March 10, 2003 -- CASE-WESTERN-COMMUNITY-2 -- Tensions between town and gown stretch from the Middle Ages. But Case Western Reserve University is reaching out to the Cleveland community. On the most practical level, its dental students visit the public schools, where half the students have never seen a dentist, to apply sealant to the teeth of the 15,000 second and sixth graders. Brittany Buettner, a second grader at Clara E. Westropp School in Cleveland opens wide to receive a free cleaning and sealant on her teeth from Case Western dentistry students Greg Gorman, left, and McKinley Self on February 26, 2003.
