(NYT46) UNDATED -- March 5, 2003 -- HICKS-DESIGN-3 -- The hottest young interior designers take as their mentor the late David Hicks, whose brash mix of color and patterns stands in marked opposition to the white-on-white favored in recent years. A book on the Hicks decorating legacy, written by his son, is published this month. Reviving the artfully clashing style perfected by Hicks are clockwise from near right, Thom Filicia, Peter Vaughn, Alexa Hampton, Steven Gambrel, Lulu de Kwiatkowski, Christopher Coleman and Miles Redd. The rug has a 1960s hexagonal pattern by Hicks. (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
