(NYT33) WASHINGTON -- March 6, 2003 -- BUSH-SPEECH-2 -- A White House worker vacuums the red carpet that President Bush will walk down for a news conference in the East Room of the White House, Thursday, March, 6, 2003. In his prime-time news conference at 8 p.m. EST, his first since October 2001, Bush will make an opening statement, but his spokesman said Thursday that this will not be his main forum for making a case for going to war. The White House also said that the administration is still planning to have a vote on a second U.N. resolution, and the president thinks it will pass. (Doug Mills/The New York Times)
