(NYT5) EATON, Colorado -- Sept. 15, 2003 -- SCI-COLORADO-VIRUS -- Even with the cool weather that has arrived in the last week, Colorado health officials are still telling residents not to let down their guard against the mosquito-borne West Nile virus. Colorado has been the hardest hit state this year, with nearly 1,500 people infected, and it has had the highest number of deaths, with 27 reported so far. Dennis Hinchley of Eaton, Colorado is partly paralyzed after being infected with the West Nile virus. He does not know if the paralysis will be permanent. Hinchley near his home on Sept. 11, 2003.
