(NYT1) BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Sept. 8, 2003 -- IRAQ-1 -- An Iraqi boy is searched by a U.S. soldier at a roadblock on the outskirts of Baghdad, Monday, Sept. 8, 2003. The roadblock was set up to search vehicles and occupants for weapons. With costs and casualties rising in the campaign against terrorism, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld struck back Monday at the administration's widening circle of critics, saying they were complicating an already difficult task.
