(NYT16) MAHMUDIYA, Iraq -- Aug. 24, 2003 -- IRAQ-HOSPITAL-3 -- Recently, with terrorist attacks and sabotage on the rise in Iraq, the 28th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) has become a kind of showcase for the various kinds of violence afflicting Iraq. It is the biggest U.S. field hospital in the country, and was built in April in an empty stretch of desert 20 miles southwest of Baghdad as the first stop for U.S. soldiers injured on the battlefield.
