(NYT16) NEW YORK -- Aug. 23, 2002 -- FRESHWATER-PEARLS-2 -- In the last few years, scientists in China have found a way to make their pearls more like the saltwater variety - bigger, rounder and whiter. Joel Schecter, the CEO of Honora Industries, with a variety of Chinese Freshwater Cultured Pearls. (Justin Lane/The New York Times)
