(NYT47) NEW YORK -- Aug. 26, 2002 -- NY-GOV-RACE -- Again casting himself as an outsider running against politics-as-usual in Albany, Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday focused his criticism on the office of his opponent, H. Carl McCall, saying the state comptroller should not be the sole trustee of the state's $105 billion pension fund. The two candidates stuck to their usual campaign schedules, both playing down, for different reasons, a report on Sunday that Dennis Mehiel, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor whose campaign has merged with McCall's, had fathered two children with two women while separated from his first wife. Cuomo, right, with Charlie King, a candidate for lieutenant governor, campaigned in front of City Hall on Monday. (Don Hogan Charles/The New York Times)
