(NYT8) PLAINFIELD, Vt. -- Aug. 22, 2002 -- GODDARD-CAMPUS-BOS-4 -- In a move that has not only triggered hair-tearing upheaval on the pastoral campus of Goddard College -- a revered icon among progressive schools -- in Plainfield, Vt., but caused some mournful self-assessment the length of the Green Mountain range, the college's board of trustees voted in June to shut down the school's 64-year-old campus program, leaving only its "low-residence" program, in which the mostly adult students visit the school just once a semester. " "Goddard is still here," says interim president Stephen E. Fritz. "We are still independent, and we are going to grow the college from the base we still have."
