Brooks, the former chief executive of Sotheby's, who is serving six months under house arrest in her $5 million, 12-room apartment in New York, appears to have it easy. She can go grocery shopping for two hours one day a week. But she must file her request for unscheduled outside activities 48 hours in advance and she wears an ankle bracelet that monitors her location. One expert said house arrest can be debilitating for some people because it makes them their own jailer and they can look out the window and see what they are missing.The exterior of the building where Brooks lives in New York.
