(NYT7) NEW YORK -- July 9, 2002 - MICHELANGELO-DRAWING-2 -- In the ultimate case of finding treasure in the attic, Sir Timothy Clifford, a visiting museum director from Scotland on a busman's holiday in New York, while searching through old boxes of drawings of lighting fixtures at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, has discovered what experts seem to agree is a work by Michelangelo. Cooper-Hewitt museum officials from left: Floramae McCarron-Cates, senior curatorial assistant in Drawings and Prints of the National Design Museum; Dr. Sarah E. Lawrence, director, Masters Program in the History of the Decorative Arts, and Paul Warwick Thompson, director of the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, with the work believed to be by Michelangenlo.
