(NYT8) SHAWANO DAM, Wisc. -- July 1, 2002 -- SCI-GREAT-LAKES-STURGEON-1 -- Lake sturgeon from the Wolf River being captured, measured and tagged below Wisconsin's Shawano Dam. The Great Lakes were once home to one of the earth's largest populations of sturgeons, which are rare and getting rarer elsewhere in North America, Europe and Asia.
