(NYT30) NEW YORK -- Feb. 7, 2003 -- FASHION-WEEK -- Miguel Adrover's story has become the design world's favorite cautionary tale. It has the right components for urban legend, one well upholstered with bohemian cliches. Early reports about Adrover rarely failed to take note of his ratty East Village lodgings, the scavenged materials (recycled Vuitton valises, Quentin Crisp's mattress, Yankees caps) from which he made clothes, his exotic-sounding island background (he was raised on Majorca) and his seeming indifference to the trappings of a conventional fashion career. Adrover, left, and Farruquito, the Flamenco prodigy, in for a measurement in Manhattan, Feb. 4, 2003. (Carol Halebian/The New York Times)
