(NYT47) ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Jan. 23, 2003 -- BBN-METS-GLAVINE-2 -- Pitcher Tom Glavine chose to sign a three-year, $35 million contract with the Mets last December, leaving the Atlanta Braves, a team he had been with for 16 years and adding more uncertainty to a challenging family situation. Glavine wanted to stay in Georgia, but he said the Braves were so indifferent in pursuing him that they helped make an agonizing decision easier. Until Glavine actually made it. Glavine and his wife, Christine will conduct a geographic balancing act with their children while he pitches for the Mets after spending his career with Atlanta. The Glavines at their home in Alpharetta, Ga., on Jan. 16, 2003. (Erik S. Lesser/The New York Times)
