(NYT47) NEW YORK -- Jan. 7, 2003 -- FBN-GIANTS-FANS-3 -- Fans had already suffered a lifetime's worth of anguish on Sunday when the Giants fluffed a field goal on the final play of their playoff game, after surrendering a lead gargantuan enough to beat two football teams. Then the National Football League comes along on Monday and admitted that the game officials goofed and the Giants should have been granted another play that might have brought salvation, instead of a heartbreaking and season-ending 39-38 loss in San Francisco. All over New York fans howled their indignation. Freedom Allah, a concrete laborer says, "And then they apologize! ... They should fine the referee for a blown call.''
