(NYT39) SAYREVILLE, N.J. -- March 4, 2003 -- NJ-SEWER-RUPTURE -- The rupture of a sewage pipe serving central New Jersey was diverting 2.5 million gallons of raw sewage into upper New York Harbor each hour Tuesday, March 4, 2003, fouling Raritan Bay and nearby waters. The rupture occurred after a brief power interruption on Sunday at a pumping station near Sayreville, N.J.
