(NYT52) NEW YORK -- Jan. 22, 2003 -- SHARPTON-FIRE-2 -- The Harlem ballroom where the Rev. Al Sharpton has held court for six years, preaching civil rights and excoriating politicians who raised his ire, was destroyed Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, 2003 by fire. City officials said that the two-alarm fire had been caused by an electrical problem. It began around 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of 1941 Madison Avenue, a three-story building near 125th Street that houses the headquarters of the National Action Network, Sharpton's civil rights group.
