(NYT37) WASHINGTON -- Jan. 13, 2003 -- DEMS-APPOINT -- On Monday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed Rep. Bob Matsui of Calif. to head the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, over William J. Jefferson of Louisiana. Jefferson was the lone Democrat who had actively sought the fund-raising job with support from the Congressional Black Caucus, prompting black members to question whether they are still taken for granted by the party's leadership.
