(NYT10) NEW YORK -- Jan. 11, 2003 -- PRIESTS-ABUSE-3 -- Paul E. Dinter, a former priest, says sex used to be a taboo subject in seminaries. "It amounted to don't ask, don't tell, don't touch," says Dinter, ordained in 1965 and the author of a new book, "The Other Side of the Altar". "In my lifetime there were still seminaries handing out paddles so you could tuck your shirt into your pants and never touch yourself. There were nuns showering in gowns so they were never naked." Dinter in New York, in Jan. 2003. (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
