(NYT38) NEW YORK -- Feb. 3, 2003 -- CNN-ABSENT-ANCHOR -- Aaron Brown, who has anchored much of the CNN coverage of major breaking news events for 18 months, did not appear until 10 p.m. on Sunday, more than 36 hours after the news of the Columnbia shuttle catastrophe broke. Brown, whom CNN has promoted as its leading anchor for major news, was on vacation in Palm Springs, Calif., on Saturday, playing in the Bob Hope Celebrity Golf Tournament.
