(NYT23) SALAHUDDIN, Iraq -- Feb. 23, 2003 -- KURDS-INFIGHTING-3 -- One threat to stability in Iraq after any war to remove Saddam Hussein is a 45-year-old U.S.-educated man by the name of Najat al-Sourchi. He wants to kill Massoud Barzani, an American ally and president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which has played host to CIA teams in northern Iraq since last fall. In June 1996, Barzani fighters advanced on a village in Kalakin, hoping to capture Sourchi's brother, Zayed, who they said was spying for the Kurdish party loyal to Baghdad. Hussein Agha al-Sourchi, the tribal elder, was fatally shot by Barzani fighters; Zayed al-Sourchi escaped.
