(NYT15) NEW YORK -- Feb. 20, 2003 -- NY-BARGE-EXPLOSION-2 -- New York City Department rescue boats work at containing flames from an explosion after a barge carrying unleaded gasoline exploded and caught fire at an oil storage terminal off New York's Staten Island, Friday, February 21, 2003. Initial reports say that the explosion may have been caused by a tanker transferring products or refueling. Authorities were unsure whether the burning material was gasoline, diesel fuel or heating oil as some of the materials spilled into the surrounding waters and Coast Guard crews were deliberating how best to clean it up. Two people are reported missing and another one seriously injured. (Keith Meyers/The New York Times)
