(NYT35) NEW YORK -- Jan. 27, 2003 -- NY-JOGGER-ATTACK -- A police panel concluded Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, that there was no misconduct in the 1989 police investigation of the Central Park jogger case and said that five Harlem men whose convictions were thrown out by a judge last month had "most likely'' participated in the brutal beating and rape of the jogger. The panel also rejected the claim of Matias Reyes, a convicted killer and serial rapist, that he was the lone rapist, noting that DNA tests proved that he raped the jogger but left "nothing but his uncorroborated word that he did so alone.'' Members of the panel from left, Jules A. Martin, Stephen L. Hammerman and Michael F. Armstrong at a press conference at 1 Police Plaza on Monday. (Don Hogan Charles/The New York Times)
