(NYT4) TACOMA, Wash. -- Nov. 2, 2002 -- SNIPER-WORKOUTS -- Todd Paulson, who runs a garage in Tacoma, Wash., said John Muhammad, the sniper suspect, came by three times to look at this 1965 Lincoln Continental. At $2,500, Muhammad finally concluded it was out of reach, and less than two weeks later, would buy a different car on the other side of the country for $250. In the purchased car, according to law enforcement officials, the men plotted their deadly work and spread murder across 1,000 miles of the eastern United States.
