(NYT6) KANAB, Utah -- April 7, 2009 -- SCENIC-UTAH-ADV12-8 -- The decaying structures of the Johnson Canyon movie set near Kanab, Utah, in late October, 2008. The set was used in the television Western series "Gunsmoke" and was a place where actors such as Omar Sharif and Gregory Peck could be seen filming movies. Now the set looks more like a ghost town than a bustling frontier village. The Kanab, Utah, area was once known as Utah's Little Hollywood for the number of westerns made nearby from the 1930s through the 1960s. The area still stars in films, though less frequently.
