Handout picture distributed by the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) showing people assisting others in the stands at the National Stadium in Lima on May 24, 1964, during disorders following a qualifier match for the Tokyo Olympic Games between Peru and Argentina, which caused the death of 320 football fans. Massive outrage after a Peruvian goal was cancelled caused the police to throw tear gas into the public generating chaos and a stampede in which people died asphyxiated and trampled against closed doors. Peru commemorates the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest tragedies of football to raise public awareness on the humanitarian costs caused by violence in stadiums, less than 20 days before the start of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
