Rytuał śmierci ludu Toraja w Indonezji - Redux
Men bring out the deceased body from the stone grave during Ma'nene ritual at Loko'mata in North Toraja, Indonesia. The Ma'nene ritual is usually held by Torajan family every one, two, or three yearst after the harvest season and involves cleaning of the mummified ancestors ?and the cemetery. The purpose is to honour the ancestors and to bring good fortune for the next harvest. Death ritual is the most important ritual in Toraja. For Torajans, the death is not a sudden, abrupt event. Instead, death is just one step in a long, gradually unfolding process. Late loved ones are tended at home for weeks, months, or even years after death. Funerals are often delayed as long as necessary to gather far-flung relatives. The soul of the deceased is thought to linger around the village until the funeral ceremony is completed, after which it begins its journey to Puya (the land of of souls).
