Rod Stewart's attempts to go from rock star to society gent at Royal Ascot ended in disaster today ( June 18) when he arrived at the VIP enclosure wearing a top hat about 5 sizes too large. Girlfriend Penny Lancaster pointed to her own perfectly crafted head gear to show her sartorially challenged man how it should be done. Poor old Rod had made a real effort to look the part, kitted out in tail coat, dapper white waist coat and white tie. But the effect was ruined by the oversized topper, which was so huge it actually covered his ears. It might have covered his whole head if his nose wasn't so big.
