PHOTO: REDUX A man who claimed to be a FARC guerrilla displays his gun at a military base in the Putamayo region where he walked in and surrendered to the authorities. The Putumayo, an Amazon basin region in southern Colombia, is one of the biggest cocoa plant producing regions in the country and also the one suffering most indiscriminately from fumigations. Continuous warfare between factions fighting over the cocoa fields have left thousands of dead civilians. Farmers, most of whom have lost their ilicit crops due to the fumigations, have no other way to make a living than growing cocoa.
