The dhow was the ship of trade used by the Swahili, and remains a popular mode of transportation for tourism, trade and by the Safari Doctors to move through the Lamu archipelago, Kenya, on August 26, 2023.
Each month for a week a medical team called the Safari Doctors set sail through the Lamu archipelago to provide care to the most isolated and vulnerable populations. In their mission, the Safari Doctors are confronted with neglected diseases but also with the permanent threat of an armed group plaguing the region.
