International Zone, Mediterranean Sea, Decembre 11th 2017 Susan (25) from Cameroon: "I left Cameroon when I was 17, when my mother died. I don't know my father. I went to Equatorial Guinea to work as a cleaning lady. With the crisis, they started firing the foreigners. I went back to Cameroon, I was told that I could get away by going to Europe and that I would find work there. I gave 2000 euros to pay for my trip from Niger to Europe. I arrived by flight to Libya, and was explained that I had to get on a boat: I was afraid, I wanted to go home, but they told me it was no longer possible: either I was going by boat or I was dying there. After a month, I got kidnapped by the Asmabu, they put me in prison. They wanted 800 euros. I was told to call my family but since I don't have any, I had to stay. Sometimes they would extinguish cigarettes inside my anus and tell me to say thank you ("shukran"). One day we escaped with others, I had been there for a month and a half. But I was arrested by the police and taken to a camp. They gave us a bottle of water and half a load of bread a day. They told me that if I slept with 3 or 4 of them they would release me. A friend paid and I got released. The guy from the house I was in sold me to other people. An Arab had pity on me and put me on a boat. It was late, around 11 pm, they put us on a small plastic boat. There were over 200 of us. Then, they told us to manage by ourselves and left. The water came in little by little, then reached our hips. Open Arms arrived they brought us on the Aquarius. I am happy now. It's a fresh start. I hope to be able to study in Europe and become and orderly. Ever since I was a little girl, I've been dreaming of doing this.
