These black soldiers from French colonies are marching to the applause of civilians. 4th August 1944. They have been prisoners in France since June 1940. Frontstalag 133, the largest camp for colonial prisoners was in Rennes. They were used by the Germans as forced laborers. Rennes was liberated August 4, 1944 by the 8th Infantry Division . To the left of the photo is the balcony of the Town Hall where General de Gaulle will speak August 20, 1944 after his arrival from Algiers. Rennes , Brittany, France.
