Koniec komunizmu w Albanii - Redux

The Pyramid of Tirana in the city center of the capital was first built as the Enver Hoxha Museum, about the legacy of the long-time leader of Communist Albania. After the fall of the Communism, it was transformed in a conference hall and has served several other purposes until the actual abandonment. Thirty years have passed since the end of the Communism Era in Albania in 1990-1991. The country has been closed to any contact with the outside world for more than 45 years. As a symbol of the ideological paranoia of its dictator Enver Hoxha, every corner of the country has been covered by oval shaped Bunkers of different dimensions and use, to remind the population that they were constantly in danger and at any time they could be attacked by foreign enemies. Today the two main bunkers in the capital Tirana has been transformed in an art museum, called Bunk'Art. With the sounds and lights of the time, the exhibitions and artistic works give a sense of the constant fear and perceived need of defense themselves. Rehabilitated and restored for tourism purpose, the Bunk'Art's visitor experiments that feeling of oppression, looking forward to finish the tour to breath some air outside.
