Bushra Khaliq, 50, executive director of Women in Struggle for Empowerment is pictured during an information session on the importance of female political participation in a village outside of Lahore on July 21, 2018. Ms. Khaliq is a human rights defender and women's rights activist. The Ministry of Interior in Pakistan disseminated a statement saying Ms. Khaliq and her organization were against the state and that they were involved in negative activities. Police harassed Ms. Khaliq and her staff members and temporarily shut down their work. Ms. Khaliq took her case to the Lahore High Court and eventually won.
