Iraq, Qaraqosh, December 5, 2016 Qaraqosh, or Al-Hamdaniya, or Bakhdida - 3 names for the city of ghost - is an Assyrian city in northern Iraq within the Nineveh Governorate. Located about 32?km southeast of the city of Mosul and 60?km west of Erbil, it is amid agricultural lands, close to the ruins of the ancient Assyrian cities Nimrud and Nineveh. It is connected to the main city of Mosul by two main roads. Qaraqosh was ravaged by ISIS, who seized it in June 2014 as they rampaged across parts of northern Iraq. Although the group has been expelled from Qaraqosh in October 2016.
