(FILES) A file photo taken 31 May 1997 shows a soldier of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), a Sierra Leonean rebel group whose members appeared 30 May 1997 on national radio and television to offer their unconditional support for the coup led by an army against which they ostensibly waged a civil war for more than five years, posing in a central Freetown street. The war crimes trial of former Liberian president Charles Taylor, accused of controlling militia that killed and raped thousands in Sierra Leone, resumed 07 January 2008 in The Hague after a six-month delay. Taylor, the first former African head of state to appear before an international war crimes tribunal, was present for the hearing in which the prosecution will call its first witness, an international expert on conflict diamonds.
