Workers monitor a water treatment process at the French owned Rhodia chemical companies plant in the Chinese city of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, 11 October 2007. French chemical giant Rhodia have announced it will use its hydroxylation technology at its new facility in Zhenjiang, upstream to vanillin production, making it possible to synthesise this flavouring agent via the "green guaiacol" route (non chlorinated guaiacol made from catechol).
